Where to start 31
If you have some basic understanding of Flash and you need to
catch up with changes in the user interface or ActionScript:
1. For a detailed listing of the new features in Flash Basic 8 and Flash
Professional 8, see “What’s new in Flash” in Using Flash.
2. Read about the new Script Assist mode in Chapter 13, “Writing
ActionScript with Script Assist” in Using Flash.
3. Read about the new object-based drawing mode in Chapter 5,
“Drawing” in Using Flash.
4. Read about the new graphic effects features in Chapter 9, “Using Filters
and Blends (Flash Professional only)” in Using Flash.
5. Read about how to control the new graphics effects features with
ActionScript in Chapter 13, “Animation, Filters, and Drawings” in
Learning ActionScript 2.0 in Flash.
6. Read about the new color gradient controls in Chapter 4, “Working
with Color, Strokes, and Fills” in Using Flash.
7. Read about FlashType with improved anti-aliasing and text rendering
in Flash in Chapter 6, “Working with Text” in Using Flash.
8. See the tutorials listed under “Creating Graphics” in the Flash Tutorials
book in Flash Help.
These tutorials demonstrate how to use features such as color gradients,
tweening animation, and graphic filters.
If you are primarily interested in working with video:
1. Familiarize yourself with the Flash user interface by reading the rest of
