Dr. Luanne Eris Fose Revised July 30, 2004
LET’S EXAMINE THE DOCUMENT WINDOW:
• The Title Bar displays the filename and the title of the current web page.
• The Body of the HTML document is displayed in the main viewing area of the Document
window.
• The Status Bar at the bottom of the Document Window indicates
important
properties of the document:
1. The Tag Selector: This displays all the HTML tags that apply to the current selection.
2. The Window Size indicator: This displays the current size of the Document Window
(e.g., 760 X 420). The Window Size is an important parameter for determining how the
final web page will be displayed on different sized monitors. The numbers in the
Window Size indicator will change if you resize the Document Window so you should
NEVER change the size of the window by dragging on the lower right-hand corner as
you would in other applications. Instead, you should use the Window Size indicator to
set a pre-set window size by clicking on the arrow, which will display a pop-up window
of choices. 760 X420 (800 X 600) maximized is a good compromise to meet the needs
of both large and small monitors of your intended audience. (Note: You will NOT be
able to make a choice from the Window Size indicator if your page has been maximized.
If the choices are greyed out in the WIndow Size indicator, click on the Restore icon in
the upper right of your HTML page and then try again.)
3. The Download Status area displays the total size (in kilobytes) of the current page and
the amount of time it would take to download on a 56k modem. If you want to see how
long it would take to download at a different speed, you can go to Edit>Preferences
and select the Status Bar category (Figure 4) and from the pull-down menu next to
Connection speed:, select a different speed (e.g., 1500 Kilobits per second). For the
purpose of this tutorial, leave the connection speed set for 56k.
